ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

The Village of Plainfield is seeking energetic, highly motivated candidates for its newly created Economic Development Specialist position. The Economic Development Specialist can expect to work closely with Village officials and consultants on marketing Plainfield to developers, business owners, realtors, and site selection specialists. This position will also serve as an ombudsman for the business community, guiding development through the Village’s approval processes and serving as a welcoming, approachable representative of the community.

The Economic Development Specialist must possess a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, marketing, planning, or related field and ideally possess at least five years’ experience in economic development, real estate, marketing or similar field. Excellent interpersonal skills and knowledge of municipal regulatory processes and economic development strategies critical. Starting salary $75,000+/-, depending on qualifications and experience. DIRECTOR OF PLANNING

The Village of Plainfield is seeking creative, visionary candidates with strong technical skills to serve as its next Director of Planning. The Director is appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Village Board of Trustees and reports to the Village Administrator. The Director will play a vital leadership role in guiding Plainfield’s continued growth and development providing staff support, guidance, and direction to the Mayor and Board of Trustees, Village Administrator, Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals, and Economic Development Task Force. The Village also has an active Historic Preservation Commission which has worked with the community to designate two historic districts. The Director will work with the Village elected and appointed officials in the continued redevelopment of the Village’s charming and historic downtown which is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a pedestrian friendly destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment. The Director will work collaboratively with the other Village departments including Building, Public Works, Finance, Information Technology, and Police on new residential and commercial development as needed. The Planning Department also includes two other professional staff positions and is recruiting for a new position, an Economic Development Specialist.

Qualified individuals will be expected to have a minimum of seven years’ experience in a planning department of comparable size and complexity, preferably in a growth community. Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, or related field; Master's degree in related field strongly preferred with AICP designation a plus. Candidates should possess a team-oriented style of leadership; comprehensive knowledge of modern planning concepts, principles, strategies, practices, and techniques; a creative, problem-solving approach; superior interpersonal, human relations and oral/written communication, and problem-solving skills. PLUMBING INSPECTOR


The Village welcomes applicants for a full-time cross-trained Plumbing/Building Inspector. Candidates must hold an Illinois State Plumbing License with a Plumbing Inspector Certificate. Applicants with commercial and residential building inspector certificates are strongly desired and will receive first consideration. The successful candidate will have the ability to function in a team environment and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with the public, Village staff, and representatives of other agencies. The job requires the ability to work within the Village’s New World Software System, Microsoft Office software, and have a valid driver’s license in good standing. Candidates shall supply a list of all I.C.C. Certifications with their application. Continuing education and involvement with professional organizations is expected.

Salary Range: $23.47- $37.00 per hour, corresponding with experience, plus benefits, including participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund. UTILITY BILLING REPRESENTATIVE/CUSTOMER SERVICE

The Village is seeking applicants for a full-time Utility Billing Representative. Responsibilities include fiscal and administrative work in the billing and collecting of utility payments for the Village, as well as general customer service work.

Required: Associate’s degree with emphasis in business or related field; 1 year of minimum accounting, customer service, collection, or cashier experience or equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; and knowledge of accounting/billing software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.
