CODE ENFORCEMENT

The Code Enforcement Section of the Plainfield Police Department is dedicated to exterior property maintenance issues within the Village of Plainfield.  Code Enforcement is comprised of one full time Code Enforcement Officer and is supervised by the Administrative Sergeant.

Code Enforcement works diligently with other Departments within the Village of Plainfield (including Building, Water, Planning, and Zoning) to insure compliance with Village Ordinances.

Code Enforcement personnel conduct investigations of properties regarding the following violations:
Garbage/Sanitation - Overflowing garbage containers or debris on the exterior of the property.
Weeds/Shrubs - Overgrown weeds, grass, or bushes.
Landscape Waste - Yard waste not properly bundled or placed on the street prior to 6:00 am on the scheduled pickup day.
Building Exteriors - Any occupied building which is dangerous to public health and safety because of its condition that could cause bodily injury or may be considered a nuisance.
Accessory Structures/Fences - Any detached garage, fence, or shed which is in poor condition and considered a nuisance.
Sidewalk/Parkway Obstructions - Any portable sports equipment or other type of mobile equipment which may obstruct the street, sidewalk, or alley.
Storage - Any outside areas of goods, materials, products, and trash containers which are not properly enclosed.
Signs - All prohibited signs and illegal signs that must be removed upon notification.
Parking - Any vehicle that is parked on an unimproved surface; parked on grass, rocks or dirt within a residential area. Patrol and Community Service Officers handle all other parking violations.
Addressing - All stores, residences, and buildings except barns and outbuildings are required to have their address numbers displayed.
Watering/Stagnant Water - Watering of lawns is allowed by street address (even/odd numbers) on corresponding even or odd days of the month.  Stagnant, standing water is prohibited throughout the Village including swimming pools.
