Residents living north of 135th Street (and on the north side of 135th Street) have garbage service on Thursdays.

Battery Recycling Offered at Village Hall
Plainfield residents can conveniently recycle batteries at the Village Hall as part of Waste Management’s battery recycling program, BatteryTracker. The following types of dry-cell batteries are accepted: Alkaline (AA, AAA, C, D, 9 volt, & lantern) Carbon Zinc, NiCD, NiMH, Silver Oxide, and Mercury batteries. This includes button cell batteries (hearing aids, watches, etc.) and rechargeable batteries. Please note: lithium, lithium ion, lead acid, wet-cell, and leaking batteries are not accepted.
To recycle batteries, simply bring them to the Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport Street, Monday-Friday, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Please note: The ends of each battery must be taped or each battery must be placed in its own plastic sandwich bag to prevent short circuits and damage to terminals.
Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) Bulb Recycling
Unwanted CFL Bulbs are accepted at Ace Hardware, 24604 W. Lockport Street, in Downtown Plainfield. Phone: (815) 436-3107. For a list of additional CFL drop-off locations, visit www.willcountygreen.com.
Electronic Waste Recycling
The State of Illinois adopted the Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act which mandates the recycling of electronics including: televisions, monitors, printers, computers, keyboards, fax machines, DVD players, VCRs, video game consoles, portable digital music players, scanners, and cable/satellite receivers. A complete list of items banned from landfills is available on the IEPA web site.
Electronics can be recycled in the following ways:
The Will County Land Use Department partnered with Vintage Tech Recyclers to accept its electronic recyclables. This is the first free household pickup service in Illinois. Residents can schedule a pickup of unwanted electronics by contacting Vintage Tech Recyclers at 866-631-1707. There is a limit of 10 items per service call.
Electronics can also be dropped off at the Wheatland Township Administrative Offices located at 31 W. 236 91st Street in Naperville between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Acceptable Wastes:
Oil-based paint, mineral spirits, solvents, household batteries, fluorescent fixtures, insecticides, herbicides,
drain cleaners, prescription medicine, household cleaning products, flammables, and automotive fluids.
Unacceptable Wastes:
Ammunition, explosives, radioactive materials, compressed gas, latex paint, trash, non-hazardous materials, and unopened, usable consumer products.

Medication Disposal
The Plainfield Police Department is now accepting unwanted, unneeded, or expired over-the-counter and prescription medication from the public. The medication disposal box is located inside the front entrance of the Police Department (14300 S. Coil Plus Drive) and is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Pills, salves, and liquid medication are accepted in the original container. Sharps, needles, IV bags, and thermometers are not accepted. For more details, click here.
