Building Official

The Village is seeking applicants for the position of Building Official. This is a highly responsible administrative, supervisory, and investigative position that will work to oversee and participate in the inspection of all Village commercial, industrial, and residential properties. Must be able to secure and maintain compliance with all building codes. This position receives general direction regarding enforcement policies and philosophies from the Village Administrator. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Considerable knowledge of building codes and ordinances and their application; knowledge of the methods, techniques, and procedures used in building construction and inspection; considerable knowledge of building construction techniques, methods, and materials including very specialized knowledge in structural, electrical, building, and /or HVAC work. Knowledge of decent, safe, and sanitary provisions of the state public health code and of modern environmental protection concepts as it relates to industrial, commercial, and residential development. Must possess or have the ability to obtain the designation of “Certified Building Official” from the Illinois Council of Building Officials ICC or other approved professional organization. Associate Planner

The Village of Plainfield is seeking to hire a full-time Associate Planner. This position involves the application of professional planning skills and knowledge to serve as a staff technician in the review of development matters as they relate to the comprehensive plan, Village policies, codes, and ordinance. This position also involves performing responsible technical assignments in the administration of the comprehensive plan, plan review, land use managements, code review for signage, code development and/or modification, and other related matters. Works with considerable independence but is expected to exercise exceedingly high levels of good judgment, tact, and diplomacy. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Excel database software; Adobe Photoshop design software, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Word software. Engineering Internship – Public Works/Engineering Division

The Village of Plainfield is seeking candidates for a temporary engineering internship position in the Public Works Department/Engineering Division.
Job Description/General Duties: Temporary, seasonal, position performs moderately technical engineering duties. Work is performed under the direction of the Superintendant of Public Improvements or other Manager as assigned. Work may involve inspections of methods of and materials used in the construction of roadways, curbs, gutters, and other public improvements; reviews and interprets construction plans and specifications; assistance with surveying for Village projects; measuring of all quantities used in construction projects and other statistical data collection; assistance with internal traffic studies; office related functions including data entry, filing and scanning; interaction with the public, contractors, and Village employees. Qualifications (Education & Experience): Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED. All applicants will be considered, however, current students studying civil or environmental engineering are preferred. Must have a valid Illinois Drivers License. Have effective written and oral communication skills.
Salary: $10.00 per hour
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (limited O.T. work may be required)

Police Commission Secretary (Part-Time)

The Village of Plainfield’s Police Commission is seeking a Secretary. Duties include attending monthly Commission meetings, taking minutes, posting meeting notices, maintaining commission files, correspondence, and assisting with the officer testing process.
Qualified applicants must be organized, have excellent computer and interpersonal skills, work independently, and be able to maintain confidentiality. Approximately 9 hours a month with more hours needed during officer application and testing periods.

Seasonal Workers – Public Works Division

The Village of Plainfield is seeking candidates for Summer Seasonal positions in the Public Works Department.
Job Description/General Duties: Temporary, seasonal, position performs various maintenance and construction activities and must be able to handle strenuous physical activity such as bending, heavy lifting, twisting, mowing, grounds maintenance and must be able to operate various power tools and equipment.
Qualifications (Education & Experience): Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Illinois Driver's License. College students are encouraged to apply.
Starting Salary: $10.00 per hour
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with the potential for some overtime. Candidates will be expected to work the entire summer and be available for work with limited time off. Overtime may be available during special events.
