WALKING TOUR OF DOWNTOWN PLAINFIELD
Downtown Plainfield's National Register Historic District
In 2011, the Village of Plainfield established a Downtown Historic District encompassing 66 parcels along Lockport Street from Route 59 to James Street as well as properties south of Lockport Street along DesPlaines and Chicago Streets.
In 2013, the Village was honored that the Downtown Plainfield was named to the National Register of Historic Places. Plainfield is only the 15th community in Illinois to receive such a designation for its downtown area!
We hope that you enjoy touring our vibrant, historic downtown which is home to a number of unique restaurants and specialty shops!
Many thanks to the following individuals and groups for providing tour information and photos: Tina Beaird, Michael Bortel, James Culver, Douglas Gilbert, Leif Hendricksen, Sharon & Don Kinley, Mary Alice Lambert, Michael Lambert, the Plainfield Historical Society, the Plainfield Historic Preservation Commission, the Plainfield Public Library, and the Selfridge Family.
